Losing Weight for a Wedding

I’m trying to lose weight right now so I don’t die running down my front stairs getting the mail. I’m also getting married in June and while I won’t be at goal weight, I’d like to wear a dress and not a tent :o)

One of my big motivations is also for a wedding. No, two weddings. Two of my cousins are getting married in June and July and I want to be able to look good in my suit. I want to blend in, not stand out like a sore thumb. I have another 30lbs to lose by June, then I will be at the weight I want. It might be hard since i’m strength training to get my chest ‘higher’ and less saggy.

Good luck mate, we will both do it! 😉

    1) So I can feel confident again.
    2) So my clothes will fit as they should again.
    3) To be strong and sexy; one who wows others.
    4) To be able to attract someone who is also healthy and fit.
    5) To be able to shop for clothes with glee.

    Also, Tyler:

True story here. I went out shopping for a few things on Saturday by myself, and as usual, began comparing myself with everyone else whom I saw that was thinner than me. I started to return to that feeling of “I’m not thin like ‘her’ anymore,” “I am inadequate,” “I feel like hell,” etc. and then I thought of your blog, and remembered that I am not the only one going through this battle, and I felt relieved. I really did. So, thanks again for this blog. You inadvertently saved me from going for a Saturday-afternoon-spilling-over-into-Sunday-because-I-dislike-myself-greatly binge. 🙂

I am trying to change because I want to be there for my family for as long as possible! Plus, I want to challenge myself physically. 🙂

Yesterday I published a post (link) based on a medicine report showing how our weight can be influenced by people around us. Have you noticed any of your friends or family members losing weight after yourself, following your path?

  7. MirandaLea says:

My hubby and I are planning to start trying to get pregnant with our second child sometime this summer. I want to lose weight before then so that I show sooner and feel better while pregnant.

My daughter is getting married on July 19 and as mother of the bride, I want to enjoy the day and not be feeling self concience all day. That is the main reason I set my goal weight and sarted on this journey 7 weeks ago. I am now down 20 lbs with another 50 to go. I will make it no doubt because I am determined too! It sure helps by reading others blogs so I don’t feel alone. Thanks for the inspiration!
P.S. Dave is “strength training to get my chest ‘higher’ and less saggy.” -I wonder if that would work for me? lol.

Well, my reasons are all the usual suspects, I guess. To be able to watch my kids grow up, to look a little more presentable, fit in my clothes better and so on.

But my biggest motivation right now is probably the desire to be more active. I am the antithesis of a runner, but still, I became an addict, and I can’t wait to experience running without my excess baggage. I run so I can lose weight so I can run…

Good luck to all of you to reach those goals!

  10. Kristi says:

I have a short term goal to lose 30 lbs (already 14.5 there, almost halfway) by May 9th. I have a special ceremony I am attending honoring candidates who got their black belt this year. There is a dress I want to wear, and I hope that I get to.

  11. crystal says:

I’ve already changed, but am ready to show it off at Ace & TJ’s 2nd Chance Prom 🙂 Woohoo!!! Can’t wait to see your pics from the wedding!

  12. krissy says:

Hey on April 10th, my husband and I will be celebrating 11 years of marital bliss…currently I am trying to lose as much as possible before then as we will be in Cancun celebrating!

  13. beej says:

My goal is still to just be fit. I have a wedding in October to be in, but really, I am comfortable now. I’m finally down to Large/XL, and it feels great! One of my biggest motivators? Giving my beautiful wife a hot husband (that husband would be me…)! I really can’t wait until you’re under 200. WOW!!!

  14. Bob says:

Tyler – Hit the weights now – check out http://www.bodyforlife.com and look at the weight training program. It still gives you a “free” day to eat and do whatever you want, and it will ramp you up for your wedding.

  15. Why am I trying to change? Because I don’t like who I am plain and simple. I’m going to be 32 in September and I’ve been heavy for as long as I can remember and trying to lose weight the entire time. I’ve been the “proud” BBW since the 2000s however I don’t like the possiblity of heart disease, high cholesterol or the fact that my blood pressure has been high and borderline high for the past 3 years. I want to be healthy and finally accomplish what I’ve been trying to do all of my life.

  16. Jay says:

That’s a great and noble goal to have. 🙂

A friend of mine is getting married in July.. it would be great if I could be 199 by then.

Tyler if you will… what is your secret to continued weight loss while you’re on a plateau? My weight loss has slowed and I think it’s because my body has gotten used to my calorie intake and working out. What’s your take on that?

    Thanks! 🙂

  17. Al says:

To live long enough to see my daughters grow up, get married and have kids of their own is my goal.

  18. Dan says:

So, what is your plan/approach to build muscle?

  19. Kelly Anne says:

I am also losing weight for a wedding, but that is not my primary goal. I want to be healthy as I begin to start a family with my future husband. I want to be a positive role model for my future children and be able to engage in healthy physical activities with them! I am so excited for my future and that helps me to get through the tough workouts and avoid the donuts at work. I have lost almost 30 pounds in the past year, with at least 30 more to go. All the bumps and plateaus have been hard, but well worth it. I would like to lose the weight faster, but I know from past experience that self deprivation and fad diets just lead to gaining the weight back. A healthy diet and exercise is working for you and it will work for me, too! You are such a motivator for the overweight crowd!

  20. Theresa says:

Ultimately, I want to love myself on the outside just as much as I love myself on the inside.

  21. Sara says:

    1. Myself
    2. My children
    3. Be here to see my children get married
    4. Play with my grandkids one day!!

  22. Maley says:

I’m losing weight to be healthier, but also because I’m in a contest with a friend. It’s been really motivating. I have only lost 13 lbs so far, but I have already noticed marked improvements in my health.

I’m also losing weight for some weddings, kind of. My oldest friend is getting married at the end of this month and I want to look great…and my own wedding is in September.

This blog is great, keep up the good work.

  23. Johnny G says:

you’ll do it – you’ll get down 199lbs – you are in a groove – no stopping ya

  24. Frank Dobner says:

Mostly because I just got out of control. I had the “recipe” for being in fit and looking great for many years, but suddenly I lost control and did not know why. Now I know it is because of the eating that quietly crept into the red zone.

  25. BuckeyeBetty says:

To be happy again. No, thin does not equal happy and fat does not equal unhappy. But being in control and doing things that are good for my health and my future makes me happy. Since I’ve lost weight, my relationships have improved and my confidence is back. I got a huge promotion at work. Being control of my life has helped to drive me forward in every aspect of my life. I see the real me again…and I like her!

  26. Mike R says:

A good friend of mine is actually getting married this Friday. I was hoping to of lost a significant amount of weight so I would have to get fitted for my tuxedo again. This did not happen. I try to blame school and other things for my lack of gym visits but in reality it was my choice to not make the change. It is a hard wall to get over when starting your weightloss/gym routine but I haven’t given up just yet.

  27. Charity says:

Ain’t nothing wrong with the occasional external motivator. In the back of my mind since I started WW last March, I knew I wanted to wear my favorite gorgeous party dress again, the one I haven’t been able to wear since December 2007!

But my real goal is to get to my goal weight AND MAINTAIN, which I have never ever done successfully before. I’m a ninja at losing weight, but living at that weight is going to be a whole other animal.

  28. kate says:

Welcome to being a 25-35 year old woman! Next up, bathing suit season (also a major reason to change).

  29. Tara says:

I’m trying to change everything that didn’t work for the first 40 years of my life.

One thing at a time of course :)!

  30. jeff says:

Two reasons I want to lose weight and keep it off:

    1. To look good naked

    2. To get my text messages and emails returned in a more timely fashion.

    I will get there 🙂

  31. Derek says:

I want to show that I can manage my body weight, and I am capable of losing weight and maintaining the loss. I sometimes can’t escape the feeling that someone in business looks at me and thinks I can’t manage something as simple as my weight (we know it’s not simple). I want to prove to myself I can do this, too, and, heck, I’d like to do it before my next “big” birthday.

  32. Tyler says:

I have. I won’t name any names just out of courtesy to them, but yes, I’ve definitely seen a spike in other weight loss attempts around me.

  33. Tyler says:

You just have to keep going, Jay. Try different exercises, your body is getting used to what you’re doing and you’re burning less calories on a daily basis, as you said.

You’ll keep burning, just keep going. It’s all math!

  34. Tyler says:

I’ll post it soon, I promise. I’m building muscle right now, wait until you see the new pics I upload!
