Homemade Cardio Workouts
I have fond memories of the countless elliptical workouts I’ve done since January 2009. I lost 100 pounds in under 6 months by doing nothing but the elliptical machine.
Of course, eating 2,500 less calories per day might have had something to do with my rapid weight loss. Still, I don’t miss the cardio room. Today, I have a cardio court:
Basketball is something I love to do — it’s great cardio and it’s something I look forward to doing every day. Another form of great cardio around the house is yard work, something I did copious amounts of over the weekend.
I’ve been working on my farmer’s tan since I moved in February.
While burning calories by doing cardio at home is oftentimes efficient (in the case of yard work), it still has to be thought of as a set routine. If I want basketball to be my cardio workout for the day, then I have to play basketball 4-5 days a week for at least 20-30 minutes a day in lieu of the elliptical, treadmill, etc.
It takes some discipline to be able to workout at home instead of driving to a gym every day, but I’m head over heels over working out at home as the moment. I think I might even take it out to dinner and a movie. Hold the popcorn, of course.
