What Kind of Food Can You Eat While Trying to Lose Weight by Counting Calories?
I’m writing a FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) page for the blog and this question arrives in my inbox every other day. This question along with its accompanying answer will be near the top of my FAQ page.
What kind of food do I mean by anything? I mean anything you like, including pizza, BBQ, sweet tea, cookies, cheeseburgers, fries, etc. I know this advice goes against almost everything you’ve heard about losing weight, diets, etc, your entire life, but maybe that’s why you’ve always failed?
You can’t lose weight and more importantly keep it off while hating the food you eat the rest of your life. New dieters, especially those around the start of every year, love to talk about how they’re rapidly losing weight. These new dieters may dread every meal and the extreme restrictions that come with their diet, but they only need to lose another 50 pounds and then — then what?
That’s the problem with fad diets.
When it comes to counting calories, find the amount of calories you need every day to lose weight and budget accordingly. Over time you’ll naturally start to gravitate toward foods that provide higher quality calories (“heatlhier” food) as they’re often lower in calories, but you can lose weight and reach your weight loss goals by just restricting your calories and eating anything at first.
As always, some diets/programs/gurus preach perfect, I preach practical.
